My Art Comes With Me

Passport, dog, and Stacks on my shirt. That was my little crew for a trip to Tijuana.

I took my dog to the vet, and I was wearing a Stacks patch on a simple gray shirt. Looking at this photo, that little detail is what I want to talk about: taking my art with me.

From my photo archives: Stacks came along on my Tijuana trip.

I love a doll on a wall, but I also love seeing her out in the world. On a shirt, she gets to be part of an ordinary day. No special occasion required. Apparently, Stacks had a vet appointment on her calendar, too.

That’s what makes wearing my own artwork personal. I can be away from the studio and still have a piece of what I create right there with me. A little color, those lashes, that expression—it all fits into real life.

If you have something you love wearing because it feels like you, wear it. Give it a regular Tuesday. Take it on your errands. Art deserves a life outside the special-occasion pile.

xoxo, Sand
