One Drawing at a Time

Okay, one drawing at a time.

I love having ideas for my dolls, but I want to give each one enough attention to become something I’m proud of. A new idea is exciting. Staying with the drawing long enough to work through the details takes a little more patience.

The eyes, the lashes, the expression—those little decisions give a doll her personality. I don’t want to rush past them just because another idea sounds fun. My dolls have enough attitude. They can wait their turn!

From my studio archives: Sand Dolls, big and small.

So here’s a small creative challenge: pick one drawing and give it twenty minutes of your full attention. Put your phone aside. Choose one part to work on, whether it’s the shape of the eyes or a color that doesn’t feel right yet.

I’m giving myself that reminder, too. I don’t need to finish an entire collection in one sitting. I can stay with one doll and give her the care she deserves.

Pick your drawing. Let’s see how far a little focus can take it.

xoxo, Sand
